Northeastern Thai Isaan cuisine making its way across Malaysia

SUBANG JAYA, 12 Jan 2023:

While spicy dishes primed with tomyam from southern and central Thailand are familiar sights in Malaysia, this isn’t the case with the northeastern variety known as Isaan.

This has changed with the entry of the Tummour restaurant chain – expanding on its 150 plus outlets stretching across Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

This food chain under Zen Corporation Group Public Co Ltd aims to open a string of around 50 outlets across Malaysia within the next three years – with its first outlet in the Empire Shopping Gallery here.

Leveraging on its pork-free and Muslim-friendly menu, Tummour presents its own twist on long-time favourites like papaya salad (Som Tum) and spicy prawn soup (Tom Yum Koong) among a selection of meat and seafood dishes, soups, salads, desserts, and more.

Local franchise operator ThaiFeng Holdings Sdn Bhd will also look into incorporating seasonal Malay-influenced Thai menu items to further engage Malaysia’s diverse taste buds.
