WASHINGTON, 24 Oct 2017:
Boeing Co yesterday signed a previously announced deal with Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA) to sell it 39 aircraft worth US$13.8 billion at list prices during a White House event with Singapore’s prime minister.
The airline said last week it would finalise the order during the visit as part of its bid to modernise its fleet over the next decade. Airlines typically receive discounts on jet orders, and the deal is estimated to be closer to US$6.5 billion in value.
Boeing’s chief executive officer signed paperwork at the White House with the CEO of SIA – which agreed to purchase 20 Boeing 777s and 19 Boeing 787s.
US president Donald Trump and visiting Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the signing of the agreement, according to a statement from the White House.
“We do a lot of business with Singapore. The relationship now is at its highest point and it will continue,” Trump told reporters before his working luncheon with Lee.
The US president also noted that the deal will create 70,000 jobs in the US.
The relations between the US and Singapore are “prospering,” said Lee, who also vowed to deepen bilateral ties in the future.
