BEIJING, 12 March 2020:
The peak of the current outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in China is over, a government spokesperson said today, Xinhua news agency reported.
New cases keep declining and the overall epidemic situation remains at a low level, Mi Feng, a spokesperson for the National Health Commission (NHC) said at a press conference here.
Mi said the number of new cases in Wuhan, the epicentre in central China’s Hubei Province, has dropped to a single digit, with only eight cases reported yesterday.
Only seven new cases were reported on the Chinese mainland outside Hubei, but six were imported from overseas.
This brings the total to 15 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 11 deaths on the Chinese mainland yesterday. Among the deaths, 10 were in Hubei Province and one in Shaanxi Province, NHC said.
A total of 1,318 patients of the novel coronavirus disease were discharged from hospital after recovery yesterday on the Chinese mainland, NHC said.
In total, 62,793 patients had been discharged from hospital by the end of yesterday, the commission said in its daily report.
As of yesterday, a total of 80,793 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 had been reported on the mainland, and 3,169 people had died of the disease.
