Indonesia’s Covid-19 infections still on uptrend

JAKARTA, 19 Sept 2020:

Indonesia has reported 4,168 new positive Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, its highest since the pandemic virus was detected in the republic on March 2.

Based on the data published in the official Indonesian government website for Covid-19 today, the overall total number of positive cases rose to 240,687 while 107,863 more patients are still being monitored for the virus.

In the past 24 hours since noon yesterday, 112 more deaths were recorded – bringing the toll for the disease to 9,448 people.

Jakarta Province which came under Large Scale Social Restriction for two weeks since Monday, is still having the highest overall infection in the country with 60,828 cases, an addition of 988 new cases.

In terms of fatalities, East Java has the highest with 2,942 people followed by Jakarta (1,527), Central Java (1,243), South Kalimantan (396), North Sumatra (394), South Sulawesi (389) and the remaining cases in other provinces in Indonesia.

Singapore, which is in phase two of reopening its economy and social activity, has preliminarily confirmed 15 new cases of Covid-19 infection in the past 24 hours, with five imported cases.

In its brief data released today, the republic’s Ministry of Health (MoH) said all the imported cases had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Based on its investigations so far, the ministry said there was one case in the community involving a Singaporean.

With the latest development, the total number of infections for the republic stands at 57,558.

In the full data released late yesterday, the ministry classified 1,006 of the reported cases as imported, 2,242 as community cases and 54,295 involving dorm residents.

MoH said 57,071 cases had fully recovered and discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

A total of 38 confirmed cases are still in hospital but none in the intensive care unit, it said.

Meanwhile, 407 patients who have mild symptoms or clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to Covid-19 in the republic.

No new clusters were identified yesterday.
