KUALA LUMPUR, 4 Dec 2018:
A total of 57,191 people with Malaysian permanent resident status (MyPR) were awarded Malaysian citizenship between 2008 and Sept this year, the Parliament was told yesterday.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said this was based on the National Registration Department’s records – with Indonesians at the top of the list, totalling 24,005 people.
This is then followed by Indian nationals (12,097), China (7,242 people) and from other countries (13,847 people), he said in response to an oral question from Noor Amin Ahmad (PH-Kangar) on the number of foreign nationals given Malaysian citizenship over the past 10 years.
He said a total of 1,244 MyPR holders had been awarded Malaysian citizenship since Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over the federal government last May until Sept 30 this year.
