UiTM students get fee waiver for excellence in athletics

SHAH ALAM, 26 Sept 2017:

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) is targeting for at least one of its athletes to win a medal for the country at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Vice chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said said he is confident the target could be achieved based on the performance of the UiTM students who represented the country at the recent Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 (KL2017).

“It is the dream of UiTM and mine to see UiTM athletes winning medals at the world’s top sports meet,” he said after handing out incentives to KL2017 and 2017 World University Games medal-winning athletes from UiTM here last night.

Hassan said winning a medal at Tokyo 2020 would be possible if the athletes remained focused and trained hard.

Last night, 31 UiTM athletes received cash incentives and exemption of university tuition fees and accommodation charges.

These UiTM athletes contributed nine gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in various events, including sailing, hockey, athletics, shooting, swimming and gymnastics.
