Slimming pill ingredient causes loss of SEA Games gold medal

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Oct 2017:

National diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri will agree if the gold medal for the women’s synchronised 3m springboard event – which she won together Wendy Ng Yan Yee, who was found positive for dope at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur 29th SEA Games (KL2017) – is withdrawn by the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF).

Nur Dhabitah said there was indeed disappointment if she gave free reign to her emotions but they had esprit de corps and she would always be with Wendy and would accept all decisions.

“I want Wendy to know, we, the national diving squad, will always be together to boost Wendy’s spirit over the doping,” she said after winning the bronze medal in the women’s individual 3m springboard at the FINA Grand Prix Diving Championship Kuala Lumpur 2017 at the National Aquatic Centre yesterday.

At KL2017, Nur Dhabitah also reaped the silver medal in the women’s individual 3m springboard and would probably win the gold medal in the event if Wendy’s gold medal was withdrawn (Wendy won the gold medal).

Wendy was confirmed to have taken the banned substance sibutramine, which is normally found in slimming products, after the B sample tested at the World Anti Doping Agency in New Delhi on Oct 11 was also positive.

The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia aspired to make an application with the Olympic Council of Malaysia and SEAGF for the withdrawal of only one individual medal won by Wendy.
