Sime Darby FC wins FAM Cup 2017

PETALING JAYA, 23 Oct 2017: 

Sime Darby FC won the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Cup 2017 with a 3-2 aggregate win over Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) FC after an entertaining 2-2 draw in the second-leg of the final at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) here last night.

The win saw Ahmad Yusoff’s side repeat the success earned in 2010,  and would be a confident booster for them in the Premier League campaign next season.

With 1-0 advantage from the first-leg played at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last week, Sime Darby started off on the front foot against their opponents.

However, it was UKM FC who went ahead on the scoresheet in the 16th minute, with a counter-attack nicely finished by Muhammad Hasrul Nurkholis Hasim.

Stunned by the goal, Sime Darby regrouped before scoring the equaliser through Muhammad Nazrul Kamaruzaman’s header in the 28th minute, to make 1-1 before the break.

Being 1-2 behind on aggregate, UKM continued to look another goal, however, Sime Darby held up well to the onslaught.

Sime Darby’s second goal came in the 55th minute, with a wonderful volley from defender Tunku Noor Hidayat Tunku Ishak beating UKM FC’s goalkeeper Mohamad Khairi Hassan, to make 2-1.

UKM FC scored the second goal in 89th minute through substitute Mohd Faidzol Fazreen Shamsudin, to make it 2-2, however it came too little too late, as Sime Darby held on to win on aggregate.

Sime Darby FC took home a cash prize of RM200,000 and a trophy, while UKM FC received a cash prize of RM100,000.
