KUALA LUMPUR, 29 May 2019:
Under-12 footballers in the country now stand a great chance of representing Malaysia at the 2019 Global Cup in Japan in September.
The 15 players who make it through a local selection playoff competition will then head on for the tournament to be held in J-Green Sakai, Osaka, Sept 14-16,
There will be selection tournaments held in four states – Kedah, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan – from June 29 to July 28, where four best teams from each zone will then battle it out at at the Grand Final playoffs in Kuala Lumpur.
Yakult (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Hiroshi Hamada said in a statement today the effort taken is hoped to produce future world class players.
Among the popular teams participating in Osaka are Buriram FC from Thailand, Cerezo Osaka and Fagiano Okayama (Japan) several club teams from Australia, South Korea dan China, which Hiroshi said will provide quality exposure for our young players.
“We want to help encourage young Malaysians develop as great players. High-level international exposure will help produce quality players for the future.
“Besides, the involvement of renowned clubs like these will help the players gain much needed experience.”
Hiroshi expects about 1,200 players from clubs and academies nationwide to take part in the selection trials.
“We have got positive feedback from clubs and academies and we hope those who will be at the trials will give their best and then go on to make Malaysia proud in Osaka.”
The 2019 Global Yakult Cup will kickoff with trials at the Sultan Abdul Halim stadium in Alor Star on June 29, followed by Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka (July 6); National Sports Council (NSC) field, Bukit Jalil (July 7); and Sultan Ismail College in Kota Bharu on July 13.
The grand final playoff will be held at the NSC field on July 27 and 28.
