Relief for Pandelela as she clinches bronze in China

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 June 2018:

National diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg put on an excellent performance to win the bronze medal in the women’s 10m platform event at the 2018 FINA World Cup in Wuhan, China today.

The Sarawak-born diver collected 349.15 points after five jumps in the action at the WuhanNatatorium Sports Centre tonight.

She started off rather poorly but recovered in the fourth jump to win third position in the group and booked a bronze medal.

The gold and silver medals were dominated by Chinese divers through Zhang Jiaqi (427.30 points) and Ren Qian (403.85 points), respectfully.

Pandelela’s victory is Malaysia’s first medal in this edition, three days after the World Cup opened.

On Tuesday, Pandelela qualified for the semi-finals after finishing 12th in the top 18 with 295.70 points.

Only the 12 best divers made it to the final from the semi-finals and Pandelela finished third with 347.15 points.

On the fourth day of the championship tomorrow, Pandelela will be partnering world champion Cheong Jun Hoong in the women’s 10m platform synchronised event while another national diver Ooi Tze Liang would participate in the semi-finals of the men’s 3m springboard event.
