Mercedes-AMG Petronas looking for 2020 F1 talent

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 July 2019:

National oil and gas company Petronas, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Petronas Lubricants International (PLI), is initiating a global search for a trackside fluid engineer to provide onsite technical support for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in the 2020 FIA Formula One (F1) World Championship.

PLI managing director and chief executive officer Giuseppe D’Arrigo said the selected candidate will become part of a crew developing cutting-edge fluid solutions for the F1 team – who are five-time World Constructors’ Champions.

“In PLI, we are constantly challenged to improve our Petronas Fluid Technology Solutions design and delivery to keep the team ahead of the race.

“We test our world-class talent and technology to provide products and services that meet the needs of our partners in motorsports, OEMs and ultimately, our everyday consumers,” he said in a statement yesterday.

For the record, Zimbabwe-born Stephanie Travers, 24, was appointed as Petronas trackside fluid engineer – following the inaugural 2018 search which received over 7,000 applications from around the world.

Mentored by fellow Petronas trackside fluid engineer Ahmad Nasri Mohd Shafie, since day one of 2019 winter testing, she joins all 21 races on the 2019 F1 calendar, providing a comprehensive suite of fluid support services to deliver real-time input on the health of the power unit.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team principal and CEO Toto Wolff said the team is very excited to nurture new talents to join their trackside support team.

“Petronas fluid experts give us real-time analysis and early detection of potential challenges – vital technical expertise.”

The engineers on Petronas’ trackside technical support team play an important role in monitoring and conducting analyses on Petronas Primax Fuel, Petronas Syntium Lubricant and Petronas Tutela Functional Fluids to ensure full compliance with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) regulations and optimum performance for the Mercedes-AMG team.
