KUALA LUMPUR, 4 May 2018:
National divers Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Cheong Jun Hoong today secured their second bronze medal at the final leg of the 2018 FINA Diving World Series held in Kazan, Russia.
The pair accumulated 318.54 points after a five rounds of dives to finish third in the women’s 10m platform synchronised event of the competition held at the Kazan Aquatics Palace, according to International Swimming Federation (FINA) website www.fina.org.
China claimed back their domination in the event when their scratch pair of Lin Shan-Si Yiajie took the gold medal with a score of 324.24 points, while North Korean pair of Kim Kuk Hyang-Kim Mi Rae clinched the silver with 320.58 points.
The Malaysian pair – ranked among the top eight in the world – made a breakthrough by bagging the gold in the earlier leg in Montreal, Canada, last week (April 27).
It is also the first time Malaysian divers on top of the podium in the series since its inception in 2007.
Pandelela-Jun Hoong started the four-leg series with a silver in the opening leg in Beijing, China on March 9 and a bronze in Fuji, Japan, on the following week.
After today’s competition, the duo are ranked second with 93 points, nine points behind China in the women’s 10m platform synchronised standings.
Later tonight, senior diver Leong Mun Yee will once again partner Nur Dhabitah Sabri in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard competition.
