KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Aug 2019:
The date of Malaysia’s first women multi-stage cycling race, Le Tour de Femina (LTdF) 2019, has been postponed to new dates, according to organisers Ciclista Sports Sdn Bhd.
The race was initially planned to be held next month from Sept 7 to 12.
Ciclista Sports Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Shahirudeen Seeni said the decision to postpone the race was made after discussions and mutual agreement with stakeholders.
“The organisers have decided to postpone LTdF 2019 to a new date that has been set after approval from the International Cycling Union (UCI), namely from Nov 16 to 21.
“The decision to postpone the race was made after a serious discussion comprising the organisers, Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) and the sponsors held last week before the new date was proposed to the UCI,” he said in a statement today.
However, Shahirudeen gave assurance the race would be held within this year.
“Following the approval of the new dates by UCI, the organisers will work towards ensuring a smooth race.”
LTdF 2019, organised by Ciclista Sports Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and MNCF aims to empower women in sports and make Malaysia one of the main cycling hubs for women in the region.
Although postponed, UCI will still maintain the six stages of the 2019 LTdF race.
