The national women’s recurve archers did the country proud when they bagged the team gold medal at the second leg of the 2019 Asia Cup in Taiwan today.
Nur Aliya Ghapar, Loke Shin Hui and Nur Afisa Abdul Halil stole the limelight when they defeated Australia 6-2 in the women’s team recurve final.
Silver medallist at the 2019 World Championship, Khairul Anuar Mohamad, however, had to be satisfied with another silver medal after he was defeated by 19-year-old South Korean Kim Pil-Joong 2-6 in the men’s recurve final.
Malaysia also took the bronze through Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin when he trounced Kim Hyeonjong 7-3 in the bronze medal match.
In the team event, Malaysian trio of Khairul Anuar, Muhammad Akmal and Haziq Kamaruddin lost 2-6 to the South Korean trio of Kim Hyeonjong, Kim Pil-Joong and Lee Jinyong, adding another silver medal.
In the mixed team event, Malaysian pair Nur Aliya-Khairul Anuar took the third silver when they were defeated by Taiwanese pair, Su Szu-Ping-Chen Zhao-Sheng, 1-5 in the final match.
