The national men’s recurve trio clinched the bronze medal in the 20th Asian Championships in Dhaka today.
According to the website www.ianseo.net, Haziq Kamaruddin, Khairul Anuar Mohamad and Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin beat the Chinese trio of Jin Tao, Wang Yan and Wang Dapeng, 5-3 en route to the bronze.
Earlier, the Malaysians had lost 0-6 to the South Korean trio of Kim Jongho, Lee Woo Seok and Lee Seungyun in the seminfinals.
However, no medals were forthcoming in the men’s recurve individual competition. Muhammad Akmal came close but lost out to Seungyun in the semifinals.
National junior archers Bryson Ting Tiew Luing and Mimi Raihan Yazid all finished in 9th spot in their events and missed the cut to compete in the Youth Olympics next year. Only the top eight qualify.
Malaysia only sent the men’s recurve team and the two juniors for this meet.
