SHAH ALAM, 7 Jan 2019:
The Selangor Football Association (FAS) is looking to produce more female referees to officiate matches at the grassroots level by next year, its secretary-general Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon said yesterday.
He said FAS was in the process of identifying potential female candidates to be given enough exposure to officiating junior tournaments in Selangor for a start.
“FAS is committed to seeing how we can encourage women referees to be involved in the football industry as a whole.
“If we look abroad, women are actively involved as referees in football, but in Malaysia, it’s (the career) a little less (popular),” he said after attending a seminar conducted by FAS for referees and referee assessors here.
He said the FAS Referee’s Committee had also outlined some initiatives to promote a refereeing career to women.
