A Bangladeshi labourer died after falling into a lift shaft from the third floor, at a condominium construction site in Seri Manjung, here yesterday.
Seri Manjung Fire and Rescue Station operations head Zabudin Mat Rose said the 32-year-old victim was found listless and facing upward in the shaft at the ground floor of the condominium.
He said the station received a distress call on the incident at about 4.40pm and rushed eight firemen to the location.
“According to the victim’s friend, the victim had fallen from the third floor and his body was in a hole about three metres from the lowest floor of the condominium.
“We later brought out the victim using a rope before he was confirmed dead by the medical team.”
Zabudin said further inspection revealed the lift shaft was still under construction and there was a temporary lift outside the 35-storey condominium for use by the workers.
The operation was fully completed at about 5.17pm and the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action.
Separately in JOHOR BAHRU, a man was burnt to death while a factory owner suffered 95% burns on his body in a fire at a dim sum factory at Jalan Mutiara Emas, Taman Mount Austin yesterday morning.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department’s Fire Investigation Division’s head senior fire superintendent II Ahmad Murad Saat said the department received the emergency call at 10.23am.
He said preliminary investigations found the victim was a lorry driver who was in the midst of transferring diesel fuel into the tank at the factory.
“The fire destroyed 30% of the factory and investigation is still ongoing.” However, he ruled out any criminal elements in the incident.
The injured 54-year-old man was rushed to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment, he said.
