Why would a Malaysian radio DJ need a gun?

IPOH, 27 April 2018:

A presenter at a local radio station was arrested by police for possession of a pistol and live bullets.

Perak CID chief SAC Yahya Abd Rahman said the 47-year-old man was detained while the traffic police from the Sungai Siput District Police Headquarters (IPD) were carrying out a special operation at KM28, Kampung Bahagia.

“During the special operation, a team of traffic policemen from Sungai Siput stopped a yellow Toyota Wish vehicle using a beacon light.

“A check on the driver revealed a Walther semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing seven live bullets,” he said when contacted.

He said further inspections found a backpack on the front passenger seat containing another magazine with seven rounds of ammunition, and 18 live bullets.

He said a total of 32 9mm bullets were seized.

Yahya said police are still investigating the motive behind the acquisition of the firearm under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for possession of a pistol without licence, and Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for carrying live ammunition.
