LAHAD DATU, 25 April 2018:
Demanding his RM300 loan back once too often cost a man his life when he was murdered at KM7, Jalan Tengah Nipah near the Taman Warisan 4 housing estate here yesterday afternoon.
Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said in the 1.25pm incident, the 30-year-old – a local – was attacked by the man who had lent him the money.
He said the suspect attacked the victim in his (victim’s) car and that the incident was witnessed by his 11-year-old brother-in-law, who was also in the car and was also injured.
“The boy said his brother-in-law had fetched him from his primary school and also heard him saying he wanted to pick up a friend.
“The boy fell asleep on the way to pick up the friend and was jolted awake when the suspect who was seated in the back seat attacked by the victim with a knife,” he said in a statement.
Hamzah said the boy told the police the suspect also stabbed his brother-in-law in the neck, causing the car to go off the road.
“The injured man still managed to get out of the car and made a run for it, but was pursued by the suspect before the latter disappeared.
“The boy did not see the subsequent incident and then saw his brother-in-law lying on the ground. He shouted for help.”
Hamzah said the boy could identify the suspect and police were expected to nab him soon.
He said the deceased and the suspect had met the day before the incident and there was a quarrel in the Taman Warisan area believed to be due to the debt.
