KOTA KINABALU, 22 Sept 2017:
The bankruptcy status of Klias State assemblyman and state opposition chief Datuk Lajim Ukin was revoked yesterday by the high court.
Lajim said he was informed about the cancellation by his lawyer Datuk Maijol Mahap.
He explained the bankruptcy declaration by the high court on Sept 14 came from a loan for a Range Rover with CIMB Bank that he had entrusted a purchaser to continue paying.
“As soon as I learned about the bankruptcy notice (from the Insolvency Department), I had arranged the payment to CIMB Bank amounting to RM185,000 and yesterday morning, the whole amount was paid.
“Yesterday evening, my lawyer, Datuk Maijol Mahap, the deputy president of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, filed an application to cancel the bankruptcy status on me and this morning, Datuk Maijol informed me that the high court had cancelled it.”
However, following the declaration of bankruptcy on him by the court last week, Lajim said he was automatically stripped of his position as president of Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and head of Beaufort Division under Section 9A of the Societies Act 1966.
In the meantime, he said the party’s supreme council had chosen Maijol to be acting president effective Sept 14.
“Although, my bankruptcy status has been cancelled, for me to return as president and chief of Beaufort, I have to abide by the party’s constitution.”
Lajim said the party’s annual general meeting, expected to be held on Oct 26, would decide whether he would be reinstated or not.
“As for my Klias state seat, I leave it to State Assembly Speaker Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali to decide.”
