KUALA LUMPUR, 4 June 2017:
The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) has been urged to set up a committee to investigate the death of a Malaysian National Defence University (UPNM) undergraduate on Thursday.
Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) senior vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said bullying cases in higher learning institutions must be taken seriously and preventive measures should be taken immediately to ensure that such incidents would not recur.
“Such an incident is not acceptable and I hope that the ministry will be able to set sup a committee to probe how such an incident can happen in a university.
“What more, it has occurred in a military university in which we expect a high standard of discipline and security,” he said in a statement yesterday.
It was reported that Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, 21, a third year Electrical Engineering undergraduate at the university, died at the Serdang Hospital last night with bruises and ironing burn marks on his body.
He is believed to have been a victim of bullying.
