Pre-Endemic day 55: Covid-19 new daily case reports above 2,000 again

PUTRAJAYA, 26 May 2022:

After staying below the 2,000 mark for three consecutive days, the latest 24 hours under review saw an increase with 2,430 persons testing positive, inclusive of 12 imported cases, bringing Malaysia’s overall tally to 4,497,212 infections.

Selangor (1,271) is back to reporting 4-figures with the highest daily number, ahead of Kuala Lumpur (366), Penang (119), Perak (117) and Negeri Sembilan (114).

Double digits were recorded in Melaka (99), Johor (72), Kedah (69), Sabah (66), Sarawak (49), Putrajaya (38), Pahang (29) and Terengganu (14) – while single digits were recorded in Kelantan (8), Labuan (6) Perlis (1).

The 2,192 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,436,387 (98.6%) as active cases rose 232 to 25,172 – with 24,053 (95.6%) in home quarantine, just 12 at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) and 1,076 (4.3%) hospitalised.

Numbers at intensive care units are steady at 31 Covid-19 patients and 18 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added another six confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 35,653 with no brought-in-dead case keeping this subtotal at 7,551 casualties. The backlog of around a week for Covid-19 death confirmations is due to testing priority given to healing the living.

Active clusters fell to 13 out of 7,011 identified todate, with no new cluster added since May 22.
