PUTRAJAYA, 3 Feb 2023:

Malaysia Covid19 daily new case reports during the latest 24 hours under review stood at 324 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,037,242 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (240) or fully vaccinated (50) while unvaccinated persons numbered 34.

Selangor (138) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (68), Perak (17), Sarawak (16), Melaka (14), Penang (13), Negeri Sembilan (11), Terengganu (11) and Kedah (10). Single digits were recorded in Johor (8), Sabah (6), Pahang (5), Putrajaya (5), Kelantan (1) and Perlis (1), while Labuan reported none.

The 148 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,990,227 (99%) while active cases rose 176 to 10,073 – with 9,653 (95.8%) in home quarantine, 408 (4.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 12 Covid19 patients, with six needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 paused for the third straight day to keep the death toll at 36,942 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal staying at 7,870 casualties.
