PUTRAJAYA, 10 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a further dip to 383 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,030,696 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (257) or fully vaccinated (79). Unvaccinated persons numbered 45 and two partially vaccinated.
Selangor (149) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (42), Kedah (25), Sarawak (25), Melaka (24), Negeri Sembilan (24), Perak (19), Johor (16), Penang (16), Putrajaya (11) and Pahang (10). Single digits were recorded in Kelantan (8), Sabah (8), Terengganu (4), Labuan (1) and Perlis (1).
The 355 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,982,399 (99%) while active cases rose 20 to 11,414 – with 10,779 (94.4%) in home quarantine, 607 (5.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 28 Covid19 patients, with 11 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added eight more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,883 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,858 casualties. The death involved five boosted persons, two fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
