Pre-Endemic day 283: Covid19 new daily case reports at 405

PUTRAJAYA, 9 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a dip to 405 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with eight imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,030,313 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (269) or fully vaccinated (73). Unvaccinated persons numbered 58 and five partially vaccinated.

Selangor (128) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (50), Penang (32), Sarawak (32), Melaka (25), Negeri Sembilan (21), Johor (20), Kedah (20), Perak (19), Pahang (16) and Sabah (14). Single digits were recorded in Putrajaya (9), Terengganu (9), Kelantan (5), Perlis (3) and Labuan (2).

The 441 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,982,044 (99%) while active cases fell 37 to 11,394 – with 10,763 (94.5%) in home quarantine, 599 (5.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 32 Covid19 patients, with 12 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another fatality to raise the death toll to 36,875 – with no brought-in-dead cases for the second straight day keeping this subtotal at 7,857 casualties. The death involved a boosted person.
