PUTRAJAYA, 8 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw 571 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,029,908 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (389) or fully vaccinated (108). Unvaccinated persons numbered 70 and four partially vaccinated.
Selangor (216) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (103), Sarawak (40), Melaka (32), Kedah (31), Penang (31), Negeri Sembilan (26), Pahang (21), Johor (17), Perak (15) and Sabah (15). Single digits were recorded in Terengganu (9), Putrajaya (8), Kelantan (4), Labuan (2) and Perlis (1).
The 551 discharges were just outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,981,603 (99%) while active cases rose 16 to 11,431 – with 10,812 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 585 (5.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 34 Covid19 patients, with 15 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another four fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,874 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,857 casualties. The deaths involved two fully vaccinated persons and two unvaccinated.
