Pre-Endemic day 280: Covid19 new daily case reports at 571, another 7 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 6 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a rise to 571 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,028,794 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (379) or fully vaccinated (112). Unvaccinated persons numbered 75 and five partially vaccinated.

Selangor (191) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (82), Sarawak (54), Melaka (40), Perak (37), Penang (29), Kedah (24), Pahang (21), Johor (20), Sabah (18), Negeri Sembilan (15), Terengganu (15), Putrajaya (13) and Kelantan (10). Single digits were recorded in Labuan (1) and Perlis (1).

The 696 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,980,364 (99%) while active cases fell 132 to 11,564 – with 10,945 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 581 (5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 38 Covid19 patients, with 18 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added another seven fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,866 – with two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,856 casualties. The death involved five boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
