Pre-Endemic day 279: Covid19 new daily case reports at 433, no deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 5 Jan 2023:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw 433 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,028,223 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (287) or fully vaccinated (87). Unvaccinated persons numbered 59.

Selangor (124) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (53), Sarawak (49), Kedah (31), Melaka (29), Kelantan (25), Johor (20), Penang (20), Pahang (19), Perak (18), Putrajaya (13), Sabah (12) and Negeri Sembilan (11). Single digits were recorded in Terengganu (6) and Perlis (3), with none in Labuan for the third straight day.

The 500 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,979,668 (99%) while active cases fell 67 to 11,696 – with 11,084 (94.8%) in home quarantine, 581 (5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 31 Covid19 patients, with 21 needing breathing aids.

No lives were lost to Covid19 to keep the death toll at 36,859 and brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,854 casualties.
