PUTRAJAYA, 1 Jan 2023:
Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a dip to 513 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,026,677 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (360) or fully vaccinated (100). Unvaccinated persons numbered 53.
Selangor (159) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (72), Sarawak (49), Penang (46), Kedah (36), Melaka (31), Perak (18), Negeri Sembilan (17), Putrajaya (17), Johor (16), Kelantan (16), Pahang (13) and Sabah (12). States reporting in the single digits are Terengganu (8), Labuan (2) and Perlis (1).
The 833 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,977,822 (99%) while active cases fell 321 to 12,002 – with 11,349 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 620 (5.2%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 33 Covid19 patients, with 15 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added a fatality to raise the death toll to 36,853 – with no brought-in-dead case for the second consecutive day keeping this subtotal at 7,852 casualties. The death involved one fully boosted person.
