Pre-Endemic day 274: Covid19 new daily case reports at 583

PUTRAJAYA, 31 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 situation saw a dip to 583 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – with seven imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,026,164 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (398) or fully vaccinated (104). Unvaccinated persons numbered 79 while two were partially vaccinated.

Selangor (183) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (72), Penang (56), Sarawak (56), Melaka (43), Perak (34), Kedah (31), Putrajaya (22), Pahang (18), Kelantan (15), Sabah (15) Johor (14) and Negeri Sembilan (13). States reporting in the single digits are Terengganu (9), Labuan (1) and Perlis (1).

The 930 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,976,990 (99%) while active cases fell 348 to 12,322 – with 11,653 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 637 (5.2%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units fell to 32 Covid19 patients, with 16 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added a fatality to raise the death toll to 36,852 – with no brought-in-dead case keeping this subtotal at 7,852 casualties. The death involved one fully vaccinated person.
