PUTRAJAYA, 29 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed below the 500 mark for the third consecutive day since October 2020 as the latest 24 hours under review saw a further dip to 423 persons recording positive tests – with six imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,024,902 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (312) or fully vaccinated (100). Unvaccinated persons numbered 68.
Selangor (136) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (69), Sarawak (44), Kedah (35), Perak (34), Penang (32), Pahang (25), Melaka (22), Sabah (18), Kelantan (17), Johor (14), Putrajaya (13) and Negeri Sembilan (10). States reporting in the single digits are Terengganu (9) and Labuan (2) with none in Perlis.
The 957 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,975,137 (99%) while active cases fell 481 to 12,920 – with 12,213 (94.5%) in home quarantine, 666 (5.2%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 41 Covid19 patients, with 22 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added four fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,845 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,851 casualties. The death involved two boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
