PUTRAJAYA, 28 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed below the 500 mark for the second consecutive day since October 2020 as the latest 24 hours under review saw a further dip to 423 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,024,422 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (287) or fully vaccinated (79). Unvaccinated persons numbered 51, with six partially vaccinated.
Selangor (131) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kedah (42), Sarawak (41), Kuala Lumpur (37), Melaka (36), Penang (33), Johor (22), Kelantan (18), Negeri Sembilan (18), Perak (16) and Pahang (10). States reporting in the singled digits are Sabah (9), Terengganu (5), Putrajaya (4) and Perlis (1) with Labuan none.
The 834 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,974,180 (99%) while active cases fell 417 to 13,401 – with 12,672 (94.6%) in home quarantine, 686 (5.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 43 Covid19 patients, with 19 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,841 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,850 casualties. The death involved four boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
