Pre-Endemic day 269: Covid-19 new daily case reports down to 609 & zero deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 26 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports continue to stay below the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw a dip to 609 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,023,519 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (407) or fully vaccinated (123). Unvaccinated persons numbered 76, with three partially vaccinated.

Selangor (236) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (57), Penang (56), Melaka (47), Kedah (34), Sarawak (30), Negeri Sembilan (26), Pahang (23), Perak (21), Putrajaya (24), Kelantan (17), Johor (15) and Sabah (11). Only Terengganu (7), Labuan (4) and Perlis (4) reported in the single digits.

The 737 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,972,691 (99%) while active cases fell 128 to 13,997 – with 13,229 (94.5%) in home quarantine, 725 (5.2%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 43 Covid19 patients, with 19 needing breathing aids.

For the first time in weeks, there were no recorded deaths and the grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 stayed at 36,831 – with brought-in-dead cases subtotal at 7,849 casualties.
