PUTRAJAYA, 24 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports managed to stay below the 1,000 mark for the whole week as the latest 24 hours under review saw 902 persons recording positive tests – with five imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,022,144 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (651) or fully vaccinated (148). Unvaccinated persons numbered 100, with three partially vaccinated.
Selangor (365) reported the most new cases, followed by double digits recorded in Kuala Lumpur (91), Sarawak (76), Penang (53), Kedah (48), Melaka (46), Perak (42), Negeri Sembilan (39), Putrajaya (34), Sabah (29), Pahang (24), Johor (23), Kelantan (16) and Terengganu (10). Only Labuan (4) and Perlis (2) reported in the single digits.
The 1,104 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,970,932 (99%) while active cases fell 208 to 14,382 – with 13,562 (94.3%) in home quarantine, 776 (5.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units stood at 44 Covid19 patients, with 31 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,830 – with another three brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,849 casualties. The deaths involved four boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
