Pre-Endemic day 266: Covid19 new daily case reports dip to 858

PUTRAJAYA, 23 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports managed to stay below the 1,000 mark for the sixth consecutive day as the latest 24 hours under review saw a dip to 858 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,021,242 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (618) or fully vaccinated (138). Unvaccinated persons numbered 99, with three partially vaccinated.

Selangor (348) reported the most new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (107), with double digits recorded in Melaka (69), Sarawak (58), Kedah (55), Penang (47), Negeri Sembilan (35), Perak (32), Kelantan (26), Sabah (22), Johor (15), Terengganu (15) Putrajaya (13) and Pahang (11). Only Perlis (4) and Labuan (1) reported in the single digits.

The 1,119 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,969,828 (98.9%) while active cases fell 264 to 14,590 – with 13,685 (93.8%) in home quarantine, 859 (5.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units stood at 46 Covid19 patients, with 23 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added three fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,824 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,846 casualties. The deaths involved two boosted persons and one fully vaccinated.
