PUTRAJAYA, 22 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports managed to stay below the 1,000 mark for the fifth consecutive day as the latest 24 hours under review saw an increase to 984 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,020,384 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (726) or fully vaccinated (165). Unvaccinated persons numbered 89, with four partially vaccinated.
Selangor (391) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Kuala Lumpur (111) and Sarawak (104), with double digits recorded in Kedah (50), Melaka (49), Penang (48), Perak (45), Kelantan (36), Sabah (33), Pahang (31), Negeri Sembilan (29), Johor (18), Putrajaya (18) and Terengganu (12). Only Perlis (5) and Labuan (4) reported in the single digits.
The 1,534 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,968,709 (98.9%) while active cases fell 557 to 14,854 – with 13,975 (94.1%) in home quarantine, 842 (5.7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 37 Covid19 patients, with 22 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added seven fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,821 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,846 casualties. The deaths involved two boosted persons, three fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
