PUTRAJAYA, 21 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed well below the 1,000 mark for the fourth consecutive day as the latest 24 hours under review saw 816 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,019,400 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (581) or fully vaccinated (148). Unvaccinated persons numbered 84, with three partially vaccinated.
Only Selangor (383) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Sarawak (79), Melaka (67), Kuala Lumpur (46), Kedah (37), Sabah (37), Penang (34), Perak (31), Negeri Sembilan (28), Johor (16), Putrajaya (14), Kelantan (13), Terengganu (13) and Pahang (11) while Labuan (4) and Perlis (3) reported in the single digits.
The 940 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,967,175 (98.9%) while active cases fell 130 to 15,411 – with 14,455 (93.8%) in home quarantine, 915 (5.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 41 Covid19 patients, with 24 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,814 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,845 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
