PUTRAJAYA, 20 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed well below the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 721 persons recording positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,018,584 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (487) or fully vaccinated (146). Unvaccinated persons numbered 85, with three partially vaccinated.
Only Selangor (297) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Kuala Lumpur (72), Penang (48), Sarawak (46), Kedah (43), Melaka (39), Negeri Sembilan (31), Perak (30), Pahang (26), Johor (21), Putrajaya (21), Kelantan (18) and Sabah (16) while Terengganu (9) and Perlis (4) reported in the single digits with Labuan none.
The 914 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,966,235 (98.9%) while active cases fell 195 to 15,541 – with 14,812 (95.3%) in home quarantine, 685 (4.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 44 Covid19 patients, with 23 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added two fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,808 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,844 casualties. The deaths involved one boosted person and one unvaccinated.
