Pre-Endemic day 262: Covid19 new daily case reports fall to 847

PUTRAJAYA, 19 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed well below the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 847 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,017,863 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (614) or fully vaccinated (155). Unvaccinated persons numbered 75, with three partially vaccinated.

Only Selangor (405) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Kuala Lumpur (66), Penang (47), Negeri Sembilan (46), Kedah (42), Sarawak (40), Melaka (39), Perak (35), Sabah (30), Johor (23), Putrajaya (19), Kelantan (18), Pahang (17) and Terengganu (15) while Perlis (5) reported in the single digit with Labuan none.

The 1,154 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,965,321 (98.9%) while active cases fell 313 to 15,736 – with 14,724 (93.6%) in home quarantine, 963 (6.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 49 Covid19 patients, with 26 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,806 – with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,844 casualties. The deaths involved two boosted persons, three fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
