Pre-Endemic day 261: Covid19 new daily cases dip to 993

PUTRAJAYA, 18 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports have dipped below the 1,000 mark after four days as the latest 24 hours under review saw 993 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,017,016 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (689) or fully vaccinated (184). Unvaccinated persons numbered 113, with seven partially vaccinated.

Only Selangor (366) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Kuala Lumpur (96), Sarawak (81), Melaka (69), Penang (63), Kedah (55), Negeri Sembilan (45), Sabah (45), Perak (41), Pahang (30), Kelantan (28), Putrajaya (28), Johor (26) and Terengganu (13) while Perlis (4) and Labuan (3) reported in the single digits.

The 1,460 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,964,167 (98.9%) while active cases fell 472 to 16,049 – with 15,011 (93.5%) in home quarantine, 985 (6.1%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 53 Covid19 patients, with 29 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added five fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,800 – with another three brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,844 casualties. The deaths involved three fully vaccinated persons and two unvaccinated.
