PUTRAJAYA, 17 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed above the 1,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,138 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,016,023 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (795) or fully vaccinated (213). Unvaccinated persons numbered 125, with five partially vaccinated.
Only Selangor (459) reported the most new cases in triple digits, followed by Sarawak (95), Kuala Lumpur (88), Melaka (82), Penang (82), Sabah (64), Kedah (55), Perak (46), Pahang (39), Johor (26), Kelantan (26), Negeri Sembilan (26), Terengganu (25) and Putrajaya (17). Perlis (7) and Labuan (2) reported in the single digits.
The 1,420 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,962,707 (98.9%) while active cases fell 290 to 16,521 – with 15,413 (93.3%) in home quarantine, 1,052 (6.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 56 Covid19 patients, with 37 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added eight fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,795 – with another three brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,841 casualties. The deaths involved five boosted persons, one fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
