Pre-Endemic day 258: Covid19 new daily case reports creep up to 1,241

PUTRAJAYA, 15 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports have further crept up as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,241 persons recording positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,013,724 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (893) or fully vaccinated (215). Unvaccinated persons numbered 124, with nine partially vaccinated.

Selangor (472) reported the most new cases, followed by Sarawak (138), Kuala Lumpur (108) and Melaka (102), while double digits were recorded in Penang (61), Perak (58), Kedah (56), Sabah (54), Kelantan (42), Negeri Sembilan (32), Pahang (31), Putrajaya (31), Johor (24) and Terengganu (18). Only Labuan (8) and Perlis (6) reported in the single digits.

The 1,567 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,959,725 (98.9%) while active cases fell 332 to 17,215 – with 16,138 (93.7%) in home quarantine, 1,010 (5.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 67 Covid19 patients, with 43 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,784 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,837 casualties. The deaths involved three fully vaccinated persons and three unvaccinated.
