PUTRAJAYA, 14 Dec 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports poked above the 1,000 mark after two consecutive days below, as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,040 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,012,483 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (687) or fully vaccinated (223). Unvaccinated persons numbered 125, with five partially vaccinated.
Selangor (335) reported the most new cases, followed by Sarawak (111), while double digits were recorded in Kuala Lumpur (89), Kedah (73), Melaka (62), Putrajaya (53), Kelantan (52), Penang (50), Sabah (47), Negeri Sembilan (43), Pahang (34), Perak (31), Johor (29) and Terengganu (23). Only Labuan (4) and Perlis (4) reported in the single digits.
The 1,456 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,958,158 (98.9%) while active cases fell 425 to 17,547 – with 16,378 (93.3%) in home quarantine, 1,100 (6.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 69 Covid19 patients, with 52 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added nine fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,778 – with another three brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,836 casualties. The deaths involved six boosted persons and three unvaccinated.
