Pre-Endemic day 256: Covid19 new case reports at 809

PUTRAJAYA, 13 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid19 new daily case reports stayed below the 1,000 mark for the second consecutive day as the latest 24 hours under review saw 809 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,011,443 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (548) or fully vaccinated (160). Unvaccinated persons numbered 99, with two partially vaccinated.

Only Selangor (275) reported new cases above 100, followed by Sarawak (71), Kedah (67), Kuala Lumpur (59), Penang (55), Sabah (49), Perak (39), Melaka (36), Negeri Sembilan (35), Johor (30), Kelantan (26), Terengganu (19), Putrajaya (18), Pahang (16) and Perlis (11). Labuan (3) reported in the single digit.

The 1,552 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,956,702 (98.9%) while active cases fell 749 to 17,972 – with 16,772 (93.3%) in home quarantine, 1,128 (6.3%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 72 Covid19 patients, with 49 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid19 added six fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,769 – with another two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,833 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons, two fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
