Pre-Endemic day 255: Covid-19 new daily case reports drop to 867

PUTRAJAYA, 12 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports have dropped below the 1,000 mark for the first time in weeks as the latest 24 hours under review saw 867 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,010,634 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (563) or fully vaccinated (193). Unvaccinated persons numbered 107, with four partially vaccinated.

Only Selangor (262) reported new cases above 100, followed by Penang (72), Kuala Lumpur (62), Negeri Sembilan (62), Sarawak (61), Kedah (58), Melaka (57), Sabah (56), Perak (55), Pahang (30), Kelantan (27), Terengganu (27) and Johor (26). Perlis (6), Putrajaya (5) and Labuan (1) reported in the single digits.

The 1,313 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,955,150 (98.9%) while active cases fell 456 to 18,721 – with 17,408 (93%) in home quarantine, 1,235 (6.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units steadied at 78 Covid-19 patients, with 50 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 10 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,763 – with another two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,831 casualties. The deaths involved three boosted persons, four fully vaccinated and three unvaccinated.
