Pre-Endemic day 254: Covid-19 new daily case reports dip to 1,315

PUTRAJAYA, 11 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports are steady as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,315 persons recording positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 5,009,767 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (900) or fully vaccinated (251). Unvaccinated persons numbered 159, with five partially vaccinated.

Selangor (420) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Sarawak (126), Penang (103), Kuala Lumpur (102) and Melaka (100), while double digits were charted in Kedah (87), Negeri Sembilan (85), Sabah (77), Perak (67), Pahang (42), Putrajaya (31), Johor (25), Terengganu (22) and Kelantan (15). Only Labuan (9) and Perlis (4) reported in the single digits.

The 2,601 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,953,837 (98.9%) while active cases fell 1,291 to 19,177 – with 17,860 (93.1%) in home quarantine, 1,244 (6.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dropped to 73 Covid-19 patients, with 50 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added five fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,753 – with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,829 casualties. The deaths involved a boosted person, three fully vaccinated and one unvaccinated.
