Pre-Endemic day 244: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 1,737 & 17 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 1 Dec 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports stayed below the 2,000 mark for the second straight day as the latest 24 hours under review saw 1,737 people record positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,992,168 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,130) or fully vaccinated (399). Unvaccinated persons numbered 197, with 11 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (367) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (193), Sarawak (166), Kedah (164), Melaka (134), Sabah (125) and Kelantan (123), while double digits were charted in Perak (88), Penang (82), Pahang (80), Negeri Sembilan (64), Terengganu (57), Johor (43), Labuan (24) and Putrajaya (19). Only and Perlis (8) reported in the single digits.

The 3,338 discharges far outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,930,524 (98.8%) while active cases fell 1,618 to 24,960 – with 23,018 (92.2%) in home quarantine, 1,848 (7.4%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units steadied at 94 Covid-19 patients, with 57 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 17 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,684 – with another six  brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,808 casualties. The deaths involved seven boosted persons, four fully vaccinated and six unvaccinated.
