Pre-Endemic day 242: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 2,465

PUTRAJAYA, 29 Nov 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports during the latest 24 hours under review saw 2,465 people record positive tests – with an imported case – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,988,759 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,758) or fully vaccinated (519). Unvaccinated persons numbered 174, with 14 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (1,306) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kelantan (147), Kedah (138), Sabah (137) and Kuala Lumpur (108), while double digits were charted in Melaka (92), Negeri Sembilan (86), Penang (81), Sarawak (75), Perak (66), Terengganu (66), Putrajaya (59), Pahang (51) and Johor (42). Only Perlis (8) and Labuan (3) reported in the single digits.

The 2,029 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,924,464 (98.7%) while active cases rose 431 to 27,638 – with 25,614 (92.7%) in home quarantine, 1,932 (7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 92 Covid-19 patients, with 51 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added five fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,657 – with another two brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,800 casualties. The deaths involved one each in the three categories of fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated and unvaccinated persons.
