Pre-Endemic day 236: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 2,516 & 11 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 23 Nov 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports flitted around the 2,000 mark with the latest 24 hours under review seeing 2,516 people record positive tests – all local cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,971,936 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,728) or fully vaccinated (525). Unvaccinated persons numbered 245, with 18 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (754) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (292), Sarawak (201), Kelantan (198), Kedah (184), Sabah (171), Melaka (122), Pahang (114) and Perak (111), while double digits were charted in Penang (95), Terengganu (87), Negeri Sembilan (66), Putrajaya (62), Johor (38) and Labuan (16). Only Perlis (5) reported in the single digit.

The 2,643 discharges just outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,908,313 (98.7%) while active cases dipped 138 to 27,003 – with 25,071 (92.8%) in home quarantine, 1,839 (6.8%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units steadied at 93 Covid-19 patients, with 59 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 11 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,620 – with seven brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,794 casualties. The deaths involved five boosted persons, three fully vaccinated and three unvaccinated.
