Pre-Endemic day 235: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 2,121 & 14 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 22 Nov 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports flitted around the 2,000 mark with the latest 24 hours under review seeing 2,121 people record positive tests – all local cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,969,420 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,436) or fully vaccinated (424). Unvaccinated persons numbered 254, with seven partially vaccinated.

Selangor (1,073) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (156), Melaka (112) and Sabah (109), while double digits were charted in Kedah (98), Kelantan (86), Sarawak (77), Perak (74), Penang (69), Negeri Sembilan (60), Terengganu (55), Pahang (54), Putrajaya (54), Johor (31) and Labuan (11). Only Perlis (2) reported in the single digit.

The 1,764 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,905,670 (98.7%) while active cases rose 343 to 27,141 – with 25,149 (92.7%) in home quarantine, 1,900 (7%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units steadied at 92 Covid-19 patients, with 58 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 14 fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,609 – with four brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 7,787 casualties. The deaths involved eight boosted persons, four fully vaccinated and two unvaccinated.
